Allowah

Meet the Team: Taryn Clausing

Name:

Taryn Clausing

Job title:

Family Liaison and Care Coordinator

Tell us a bit about yourself:

I grew up in country South Australia but eventually moved to Adelaide. I completed a Bachelor of Arts in Christian Ministries and eventually found my way overseas living in Bogota, Colombia. This is where I met my (American) husband. After five years in Colombia we moved to Nashville, Tennessee for another five years and then we moved to Edinburgh, Scotland for three years. After Scotland, we returned to the States for one year before relocating to Australia in 2020 for my husband’s job.  We have two children and we are pretty excited to (hopefully) be able to settle down to life here in Sydney.

How long have you worked at Allowah?

I have been at Allowah for just over a year. I started last year in the role of Family Liaison, and this year have added the Care Coordinator role to the mix.

What does the role of Family Liaison and Care Coordinator involve?

As the Family Liaison, I mainly facilitate the weekly MyTime support group which provides parents and caregivers a place to spend time with others that understand what it is like to care for a child with complex health needs.
My role as the Care Coordinator is a perfect fit in addition to the Family Liaison role as it particularly focuses on family support and children who are in voluntary or statutory out of home care arrangements.

How would you describe yourself in three words?

Tricky question…maybe friendly, compassionate and organised (hope that’s true!) I do like a well organised calendar, though.

What do you like doing in your spare time?

Well, at the moment, it’s filled with running kids to swimming lessons, gym, karate and drama classes. I do like a good café catch up. I try and carve out time to read and I am about to start a Masters in Social Work! Spare time?

What is the most rewarding part of working at Allowah?

I like it when my job allows me to relieve some pressure and stress that families/caregivers are prone to feel when caring for a child with complex needs.

Why are you passionate about supporting the families at Allowah?

Caring for a child with complex needs takes a team to come alongside the family or caregiver. Families at Allowah deserve a highly professional, highly organised and highly compassionate team to assist them as they navigate different issues. I feel passionate and honoured to be just a small part of this support team.

What would you like prospective parents to know about Allowah?

I would love them to know that Allowah is a one-of-a-kind place! Our unique approach to care makes it a truly special place for their child. When they come to Allowah, we want them to feel like it really is a home away from home.
