William’s Story

In life you have friends, and you have family – and then there are friends that become family. That is what Allowah means to us.

At Allowah, we are privileged to walk alongside children and families on their journey toward new milestones, and William’s story is one that truly embodies hope, strength, and perseverance.

William’s Journey: Never Giving Up on Hope

When William was born, his parents immediately noticed something wasn’t quite right. He cried constantly, and at four months old, he had his first seizure. The diagnosis was Bilateral Perisylvian Polymicrogyria—a rare syndrome that affects brain development—along with Cerebral Palsy and Epilepsy. This difficult start to life would lead to months in and out of the hospital, with William undergoing three surgeries before he was even two years old.

But despite these challenges, William’s resilience has been nothing short of remarkable.

From the very beginning, William’s family has never given up on him. His mum’s words, written from his perspective when he was just a child, echo the powerful message she has always held close: “Never give up hope on anything. Take a day at a time and believe.”

William’s journey has been filled with challenges—like battling severe Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GORD), undergoing multiple surgeries, and learning to overcome obstacles in his therapy sessions—but each time, he’s shown the world that he can defy the odds.

Through speech and physiotherapy, William has worked hard to strengthen his body and mind.

Today, he is thriving—he can walk, talk, and express himself in ways that once seemed impossible. His smile lights up our halls whenever he’s here, and his joyful spirit continues to inspire everyone who meets him.

At home, William’s days are filled with play, love, and learning. His family has supported him every step of the way, and now, William is showing the world what he’s capable of.

From initially not knowing whether he would ever walk, the Allowah team now watches William excitedly step through our doors and wander the halls saying hello to his friends at Allowah. With every step, proving that despite the challenges, he’s always moving forward.

William’s story is one of resilience, love, and the importance of never giving up. His journey is far from over, and we at Allowah are proud to be part of his path as he continues to reach new milestones.

In William’s mum’s own words, “In life you have friends, and you have family – and then there are friends that become family. That is what Allowah means to us.”
