International Nurses Day
Saturday the 12th of May is a special day in Allowah’s calendar, it’s International Nurses Day! We love our nurses. They are the ones who are at the grass roots of everything we do. The atmosphere of Allowah as a caring and vibrant environment rests largely on the shoulders of our nurses as they seek to bring the very best care they can.
Florence Nightingale, a famously influential nurse, has the honour of having International Nurses Day. The day is organised by the International Council of Nurses to commemorate the important work of nurses around the world and encourage them in their efforts. It is a recognition of the well known fact – that nurses are the pillar of any good healthcare system. This year the theme of the day is, ‘Health is a Human Right’. This theme aims to equip nurses and the systems they work within to think about the role of health in social development. Because of the important role health has on international development, nurses are at the forefront of progress in this area. By using their expertise to provide healthcare to as many people as possible, nurses are to be celebrated in the desire to see change happen in our world!
However it isn’t just overseas that the importance of nurses is clear. Allowah couldn’t run without our much-loved nurses. These exceptional individuals dedicate their lives to the betterment of the children in our care – and the kids love them for it! Some of the most well-known and well-loved faces around Allowah are those of our nurses. From essential medical procedures to everyday affection, our nurses are sure to bring a smile to the face of any child at Allowah!
In surveys, nurses are consistently named as one of the most trusted professions and this certainly does not surprise us. Professional and efficient yet compassionate – our nurses make such a difference to the lives of those in our hospital. Nursing is not a job for the faint of heart – it takes guts, skill and empathy. Did you know that nurses walk an average of 7km per day? That’s a lot of time on your feet! Our nurses work hard because they know that what they do matters. The children at Allowah feel cared for and known by all staff, particularly by their nurses. This is hands on work – getting to know and love the kids at Allowah is a rewarding part of the job.
International Nurse Day is the perfect opportunity to thank our nurses for everything they do. We are thankful that we have so many talented and caring individuals who look after our kids, here at Allowah. Nursing is a job that deserves credit, nurses work tirelessly for the good of others. That’s why we celebrate International Nurses Day on the 12th of May – because we love our nurses!
