Allowah is a medical and rehabilitation paediatric hospital. We have a dedicated team of nursing staff that includes our Director of Nursing, Registered Nurses, Enrolled Nurses and Assistants in Nursing. Our nursing staff are skilled and capable of meeting needs of the children, providing high quality Child & Family Centred Care. They have a focus on quality, safety and continuous improvement. Our nursing staff actively participate in the development, implementation and review of policies, practices and partnerships with families.
Each shift at Allowah has a Registered Nurse assigned to oversee that shift. Nurses on each shift work together as a team, focusing on child and family centred care to ensure the children’s needs are met and activities are organised in line with each child’s plan.
Allowah has an excellent education program providing ongoing training for our staff, undergraduate nursing student placements, disability sector work placements as well as a new graduate program for nurses. We also offer education for parents and carers, and learning opportunities for special school teachers and other professionals.
Allowah’s Housekeeping & Catering Services are committed to delivering high quality services. The kitchen and formula-room services at Allowah aim to provide the very best food services to each child. This includes working with the nursing staff and allied health team to ensure each meal is suitable for each child. In addition, the menu is rotated and reviewed regularly in order to keep variety and interest in the food provided. For some children the enjoyment and sensory experience of smelling and eating their meals is an important part of their quality of life. Food is prepared fresh on-site every day.
Some laundry services are available at Allowah. Parents are required to supply personal clothing for the children. All clothes must be marked with sewn name tags. An appropriate amount of clothing is to be packed for each admission.
If you visit or ring Allowah you will most likely first meet our Admin team who are always happy to answer questions or help you find the right person to talk to. They provide essential support to the Allowah team.
Thank you for your patience as we update our website to reflect Allowah’s next chapter and the changes announced in June this year. If you have any questions, please contact our CEO Elizabeth McClean at emmclean@pcnsw.org.au.
