Occupational Therapy

Our Occupational Therapist works with children and teenagers to promote their participation and enjoyment in everyday life. We seek to enhance each child’s ability to engage in activities by modifying the activity or the environment to better support them. Providing both in-patient intervention and community-based occupational therapy services, Allowah is here to support your child in getting the most out of life.

Our Occupational Therapist works with the child’s community therapist where appropriate to provide continuity of care, and seek to enhance each child’s ability to engage in activities by modifying the activity or the environment to better support them.

This is done by:

    • assessing the needs of the child
    • developing plans for ongoing therapy as part of the child’s daily care routine while at Allowah
    • working with families regarding the child’s therapy or treatment and their needs
    • Liaising with other health professionals (including community therapists) to ensure continuity of care.

We provide a range of exceptional Occupational Therapy services and supports, including:

» Intervention to increase participation in leisure activities:

      • improving play skills
      • developing social and emotional capacities

» Therapy to help develop fine motor skills:

      • handwriting skills
      • dressing skills
      • feeding skills
      • bimanual hand skills

» Access and assistance with:

      • transfer equipment
      • seating and wheelchairs
      • beds and mattresses
      • splinting and casting
      • ADL Skills (incl. toilet timing)
      • bathing and showering equipment

We also conduct various Occupational Therapy assessments, including:

    • Occupational Therapy Assessment
    • Sensory Assessments
    • Developmental Assessment – fine and gross motor assessments
    • Functional Living Skills Assessment
    • Wheelchair Assessment & Trial
    • Equipment Assessment & Trial
    • Complex Wheelchair & Seating Assessment
    • SDA/SIL assessments and reports
